Meet The Staff: Ms. Burch

Kourtni Tucker, Published Writer

Hiroko Burch has dedicated her much appreciated time here to teaching…teachers! However, she has quite the soft spot for children. She is not new to teaching, though. She’s been in the game for some time. Read below to find out about one of our new staff members who you may not have even known existed. She’s a real sweetheart!

Kourtni Tucker: What are you teaching now?

Burch: I am teaching teachers to integrate technologies.

KT: Ah. Where have you taught before?

B: I’ve taught at Lincoln Park Elementary School and Tallwood High School.

KT: How many years have you been teaching?

B: This is my twenty-fourth year.

KT:  Have you taught something different in the past?

B: Yes, I have. I’ve taught ESL and Special Education.

KT: What made you want to pursue a job in education?

B: Because I wanted to help children, and I love children…even though I don’t have my own.

KT: Were you familiar with Kempsville before coming here?

B: Not really, no.

KT: Does Kempsville stand out in any way? And if so, in what ways?

B: It is a very small, family-oriented school.

KT: Yes. Are you involved in any activities outside of teaching here?

B: Here? No. I am half-time here, and half-time at Tallwood. I go back and forth, back and forth, and have to keep myself straight.

KT:Alright, so give us a fun fact about you.

B: Let’s see…a fun fact? I love gardening, I like to travel, and I have family over three continents. I have a sister in Australia, a sister in Japan, and brothers here in America.
