Jordan Christie: What is your position or title here at Kempsville High?

Jenna Filipowicz: I’m a Math Specialist, so I’m mostly a resource for the math teachers, especially the newer teachers. I help with and develop strategies for the coming SOLs.

JC: Have you worked anywhere else?

JF: I taught Algebra I and Algebra II/ Trig at Ocean Lakes High school for 6 years.

JC: What inspired you to go into education?

JF: I always had really good math teachers! I wanted to be that for other kids. I also had a lot of success at Ocean Lakes which lead me to this job.

JC: Were you familiar with Kempsville much before coming here?

JF: No, I wasn’t very familiar with. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I’ve seen and met really great teachers.

JC: Compared to Ocean Lakes and other schools, does Kempsville stand out in any certain way?

JF: The way different teachers and different departments work together is really impressive.

JC: Have you thought about, or are you already involved is activities outside of your normal job here at Kempsville?

JF: No, I am not. I split my time between two schools, so I have figured that one out yet. I do like going to Ocean Lakes football games still, my husband is the announcer for the games.

JC: Is there any “Fun Fact” you can think of that you would like to share?

JF: I’m obsessed with the X-Files, I’m so happy its coming back on!
