The Chief Perks Donates Profits to Help Kempsville Family

During the week of Oct. 21, Kempsville High School’s coffee shop, the Chief Perks, donated their proceeds to a Kempsville family who lost their home in a fire on Thursday, October 10. The house of the family of five has been condemned and classified as unlivable by the Fire Marshall, and their possessions are unusable due to fire damage. A Kempsville High sophomore and a 6th grader at Kempsville Middle were a part of the family that was harmed by the tragedy.

“Kempsville gives back to its own,” said special education teacher Mr. Neal Hinch, whose idea it was to donate the profits.

“I found out that someone in our community had a devastating fire, and it was just the best way that I knew how to help,” he said. “Kempsville helps their own.”

The Chief Perks has noticed increased traffic during this week, and Hinch said that they’ve had students come in with donations from their parents, as well as had teachers give money without buying anything. He described sales as “very busy this week.”

You can donate to help the family at their GoFundMe, where they’ve only reached $3,000 of their $10,000 goal, or help them purchase necessities at this SignUpGenius page.

“Kempsville likes to help their own,” Hinch emphasized.
