Alongside the warm breeze that summer brings, the upbeat and funky notes of reggae music follow with it.
This year, the Virginia Beach Oceanfront will be home to the PointBreak reggae festival once again. With a variety of artists new to the festival headlining, many locals have a lot to say about the event.
Katie Mergen, a 19 year old Virginia local attended the festival last year and has intentions of returning once again for the 2025 event. Her tickets have already been purchased and when asked who she is most excited to see she listed, “Stick Figure, 311, Tribal Seeds, and Slightly Stoopid, but I’ve seen them so many times before.”
Alongside Mergen, Jayna Hiesel, an 18 year-old senior at Kempsville High School also went in 2024 and will be attending this year. Both girls shared interests when it came to which artists they were most excited to see.
PointBreak has done a strong job on promoting the festival and keeping interested reggae lovers informed on the current status, dates, and ticket releases. Both Mergen and Hiesel were aware of the dates and ticket information.
When asked about their previous experience, both had positive things to say about the festival. Hiesel stated, “I would rate my experiences a 10 out of 10. It was fun and so worth the price for the amount of artists I saw. The venue was set up perfectly with water stations and they did a really good job with it.”
Even those that didn’t attend last year still have positive thoughts about the upcoming event. Mr. Gil Bantay, an oceanography teacher at Kempsville High school, has intentions of going this year during the 2025 festival.
When asked how he was obtaining information and updates he replied with, “I am informed through a network of friends and social media.”
Despite the strong love for the festival, there was a small amount of downsides discussed. Mergen explained how it was “impossible to find parking” being the only reason she would give it a 9 out of 10. Hiesel also discussed the lack of artists she was interested in this year, however this varies from person to person.
Overall, the PointBreak festival has made a lasting impression on Virginia Beach as a whole.
As previous headliner Sublime states, “Lifes too short, so love the one you got.” Lifes too short so make sure to attend the PointBreak festival in 2025.
