Pep Rally: Spring Edition

Kempsville had its last pep rally for the 2014-2015 school year on Friday, April 24. There were games, music from the band, and a competition to see who had the most school spirit. The cool spring afternoon was refreshing to sit in, while just being cooped up in classrooms.

While everyone got settled, there was music playing to get the crowd ready for the pep rally. To start things off, the sports teams were introduced; soccer, track, tennis, softball, and baseball. The first of the games was tug of war. After the individual rounds, there was a final round to find the ultimate winner for each, boys sports and girls sports. Soccer won for the girls, and track won for the boys. Soon after, the band played some music.

After the band played, the hip hop dance crew took the field. The dance crew danced-masked, to a few songs that were mashed together. Next, there was another game which anyone from the stadium could have been a part of. There were three rounds, and each round the announcer asked for different things from the audience. Once each class had these, they were to race out with their class appointed officer to the field to claim the title of winner. The sophomores won the first round, freshman the second, and the last and final round was claimed by the seniors. After this game, two different dance crews came to the field to dance together.

The Dreamcatchers and the newly formed Tomahawks danced to “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars. This was the first time the Tomahawks have make an appearance in a pep rally. This performance was followed by another-and final- game. This game contained running in a circle with a bat on your head and the running of a certain length across the field and back. The seniors took the win.

To finish off the pep rally the individual classes had a spirit/shouting competition. After deliberation, it was concluded that the sophomores won the spirit stick. Before everyone was released the band played for the final time, finishing off the pep rally’s for the 2014-2015 school year.
