“Mrs. Stein has impacted me so much, not just for being my P.E. teacher, but showing a side of me that I did not think I had,” said Kempsville High School Sophomore, Taelynn McCleary.
Stein has done so much for students. Pushing them to find hope in school as she makes students feel cared for and comfortable to be able to talk to about anything. She provides a safe environment for her students and even ones who she has not taught.
Kempsville High School Senior Pluto Roush expressed, “She always made me feel safe in class and was always a shining light making me look forward to it.”
Sarah Stein went to Longwood University to be an elementary school teacher. She taught kindergarten for one year and said, “I absolutely hated it.”
She then moved to teach here and has been teaching for 17 years and has enjoyed every bit of it. She looks forward to coming to work every day as she loves her job. As everyday is a chance to better someone’s life and share new experiences with people.
Not only has she impacted students but students have impacted her. She said she is still very close to many prior students who she had. They have built good relationships where she is more than just some teacher, but someone who has saved people in dark times.
Mrs. Stein is also one of the leads for young life and has been doing it for a while as stated “ I started getting involved with young life years ago when I was in high school.”
Stein always wanted to become a teacher or coach and finally had the opportunity to do so. It has been a chance for her to show people a relationship with God which can be difficult to do. It never has felt forced either, as she makes sure people still have their opinions no matter what.
“She has introduced me to my relationship with God and helps me connect with him by inviting me to young life,” said McCleary.
Mrs. Stein has made many people want to try out their relationship with God as she makes everyone feel so welcome. She makes it a safe place to express their opinions on how they feel and also make the meetings fun instead of dreadful activity that is nerve racking to do.
Overall, Mrs Stein is not only someone who inspires students to venture off into new aspects of life but she also creates a welcoming environment and a safe space for students to be themselves and not feel judged.
