“By working at the local YMCA, it changed my perspective on what I wanted to do with my career,” said Kempsville Highschool history teacher Brandon Bossick.
After his time at the YMCA, he decided to become a teacher. He said that he is happy that he made this decision in the end because he was able to meet people that he will have bonds with for life.
Mr. Bossick is originally from Pennsylvania. He lived in the country for a few years, then moved to Philadelphia and experienced city life.
“It was a rough environment,” he said. This included cold weather and dangerous people. He then moved to Vermont when he was in middle school due to his father’s work. He finished high school there. After high school, he moved to Virginia.
“I wanted to move to Virginia because it had warmer weather and a bunch of my friends were already moved here,” explained Mr. Bossick.
“In my free time I coach basketball, I watch sports, and I love to spend time with my family,” he said. By coaching basketball, it shows that he cares about the well being of other kids.
Sean Spearman, a senior at Kempsville, said that he has known Mr. Bossick for over a year as he was in his AP United States History class last year.
When asked what his favorite thing about Mr. Bossick was, Spearman said, “I enjoyed the unpredictability of each class keeping me on my toes.”
“Other teachers teach the lesson in boring ways while Bossick infuses trendy hip hop lyrics into them.”
Another senior, Jason Colwell, was also in Bossick’s AP United States History class last school year.
Colwell’s favorite thing about Mr. Bossick is, and this seems to be a trend among students, “how funny of a teacher he was.”
Colwell also said, “What makes Mr. Bossick different from other teachers in the effort he puts into teaching a topic while also having a good time in the process.”
With his positive personality and his unique way of teaching, Mr. Bossick makes learning history enjoyable for his students.
