Not everyone can say they have had a good high school experience. Mrs. Miller, a history teacher at Kempsville High School has been proudly impacting her students for years now. She has helped students succeed and move on in their educational careers through her teaching.
Miller was born in Norfolk, but was raised in Virginia Beach. At first, she wanted to be an actress or singer, a dream that many people had as children. However, things would quickly change after her years in high school. Her peers did not seem to have a good high school experience. After this, she strived to be a teacher.
“I had a good high school experience but my friends did not have a good high school experience. I wanted to help kids have a good high school experience like I had” Miller said. On her off time, she also has other hobbies such as acting and theatrics. Alongside, she is a mother of 2 children. She loves seeing her students progress, have fun and succeed in their school years.
During the school year, she makes her classes engaging to her students, allowing them to be more focused in class. Though it may be stressful at times, she keeps a smile on her face and keeps pushing forward.
“I love the day to day silliness and chaos. I like to see how my students grow throughout the year,,” Miller says.
Through her years of teaching, she has made an impact on many of her students.
“In all honesty, I’d say she had a very effective way of teaching” stated Tyree, one of her former students who also states “A lot of the work was self-paced and the work she assigned was engaging”
Her classwork was claimed to be the most helpful tool in her class. Students have not only learned history, they also learned many life lessons.
“Always have fun while learning was one of the best lessons we have learned from her,” stated another former student. “There wasn’t any teacher like her.”
Mrs. Miller makes sure she interacts with her students as much as possible. She humorously teaches her class in many ways. As a result, many of her students found her class enjoyable. She strives everyday to teach in a way that students will be able to understand and relate. Her secondary passion for acting also plays a big role in her interactive teaching method. After all, her students are showing signs of success.
To this day, she is still a teacher at Kempsville High School, helping make a huge impact on others. As a teacher, she turns this stressful job into a funfest, letting her students engage and have fun while effectively learning.
Mrs. Miller is one of the most respected teachers in all of Kempsville High School. It has been proven many times how driven and motivated she is to make her student’s experiences better. Most importantly, her students have learned to just have fun with the time they have left in school. “Life isn’t so serious all the time and it is okay to laugh. If you make a mistake, tomorrow is a new day. There’s always room for redemption.”
