KHS is reinstituting its tardy plan during the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year, beginning Monday, February 4, 2019. The policy was originally removed three years ago for lack of effectivity.

“We’ve started having problems with kids again in the hallways, especially the beginning of first block,” said Ms. Hodges, attendance, “so they decided to reinstitute it during first block and see if that helps.”

Teachers have been instructed to close their doors promptly at 7:20 when the instructional period begins, and to not accept students back without a pass. Students will be able to collect 1st block passes during the Tardy Window in the attendance office, from Ms. Hodges, and will be given a lilac pass to display tardiness, and a blue pass for late arrival.

A student may be considered tardy during the 7:20 to 7:35 window. Late arrival will be 7:36 and beyond. For all blocks other than first, teachers will administer tardy passes.

Under this plan, the first three 1st block tardies will result in verbal warnings, while the fourth through sixth will each result in lunch detention. The seventh tardy and beyond are cause for an administrative meeting, phone call home, and ISS. The collection of tardies is sequential.

Several considerations were made during the creation of this plan, yet adjustments may still be needed along the way,” said Assistant Principal Johnson. “We ask for your continued patience and support as we address the needs of Kempsville High School.”
