On Tuesday, November 6th, 2018 I finally caved into the fanboy inside of me. As a long time Marvel fan I have always been amazed at how easily I get immersed in their universe. When I heard the Venom movie had finally come out I was elated – especially when I learned he would be taking the role of an anti-hero.

Now I will say that I was skeptical when buying my tickets, as the movie only got a 29% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 35% on Metacritic. But still, I pressed on, determined to get to the bottom of this myself. Waiting in the concessions line I pondered over how a movie that looked so good could amount such terrible reviews. Grabbing my things and sitting down in the theatre, I recalled all the other hyped up Marvel movies that, in my opinion, flunked. Yet, I believed this movie had potential, and it did!

After the trailers for other Marvel movies were through we were treated to the scene of a spaceship crashing into the woods of California in which we see personnel from the Life Foundation trying to locate assets from the crash. During the commotion, they realize one of the astronauts was still breathing. They rush him to the hospital and we are finally introduced to Eddie Brock, who is played by Tom Hardy.

From there the movie picks up speed, and it continues as everything a fan could want from a Venom movie. We get a high-speed chase scene and an amazing fight scene in which Venom saves Eddie countless times, showing what the symbiote can really do.  We are also treated to some great back-and-forth humor between Eddie and Venom, as they are both played and voiced by the same person.

Honestly, this movie was great and I would recommend it to any Marvel fan from the casual to the hardcore. It’s funny, entertaining, and has everything a good Marvel movie should have.
